Case Study 4 - Creating Presence, Dynamism and Influence for a Self-Made MD

The Situation

A self-made MD of a highly successful company came to us to focus on developing his public speaking skills. With no formal education in the area, he wished to learn the art and develop his persuasive ability and presence as his company moved to another level of professionalism and industry presence.

The Program

We developed a program over several months that focused on personal family events, social events for staff and on the launch of his company's new headquarters building.

Working on his diction, projection and educating him on Authentic Speaking® principles and the kinds of results he could achieve was one of the aims of the program. We coached through immediate feedback and video feedback, and consulted on the development of speeches in person and remotely.

I observed him in a number of settings and prepared and rehearsed speeches with him.

The Results

He quickly understood the ideas and began to develop a propensity for memorising the intent of large tracts of material and delivering them with style.

Over a series of both personal and business events he developed a more engaging, thoughtful and impacting style.

Peers and colleagues from other businesses commented on his significantly increased communication skills, noting that he had progressed astonishingly from saying very little at cross-industry meetings to becoming loquacious and eloquent at his headquarters launch. His addresses were also used for in-house and industry publications to promote his company and increase its market presence and impact.
